This album is of my photos of Deer Creek, Leland, MS, the tiny town where my dad’s family is from. The creek runs through the middle of the little town and is very beautiful, with all these 60 year old trees flourishing on the banks. Most interesting are the cypress trees, one of the few aquatic tree species - very cool and mysterious and atmospheric looking. Since most of their roots are underwater, the roots stick up out of the ground so the trees can get oxygen and stay balanced in water. You can see them in the photos, they are called “cypress knees”: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypress_knee
